Our Italian colleagues at Centro Studi Alan Lomax, located in Palermo, Sicily, are presenting a multimedia exhibition, Sicilia 1954: Il viaggio musicale di Alan Lomax e Diego Carpitella (Sicily 1954: The musical journey of Alan Lomax and Diego Carpitella).  

The exhibition with feature photographs and recordings from Lomax and Carpitella's 1954 Sicily fieldwork trip, and illustrative films.  The opening event will feature a conference entitled "Alan Lomax, Diego Carpitella e l’Etnomusicologia italiana", and close with a concert of songs and music from the current oral Sicilian tradition, which carries on those recorded by Lomax and Carpitella 70 years ago.

Curated by Sergio Bonanzinga and Rosario Perricone, the exhibit runs through July 1 through July 31, 2024 at the Sala di Verifiche at the University of Palermo.
